Old age causes wrinkles but wrinkles are also caused by damage caused by the sun and pollution. Human collagen can be injected into your face just under the area where the wrinkles are to help reduce the appearance of these fine lines.

CosmoDerm™ collagen injections may be a good option for you if you have crow's feet around the eyes or are seeing small vertical lines above the upper lip.

CosmoPlast™ is another collagen treatment option if you have deep wrinkles between brows or smile lines around mouth.  It can also help fix severe acne scars.

CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ are basically human collagen injections that are injected beneath the skin in areas where the filler is needed. There is little or no discomfort because the injection contains lidocaine that will numb the skin. CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ don't crate any redness or swelling and so patients can immediately return to their day to day activities. CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ effects last up to six months.

The benefits of using CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ are that they are both created from purified human collagen. This means that patients don't have to wait for a skin allergy test. Patients can also combine CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ with other facial procedures such as Botox.

There are no real side effects of using CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ but it is important that patients consult with a board certified cosmetic surgeon who can discuss all the benefits and risks of using CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™.

CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™  are great alternatives to plastic surgery. So if you aren't ready for a face lift or an eyebrow lift, you may wish to check out CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™.

Contact us today to make an appointment and to determine if CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ are for you.

Continuing our blog on laser treatments offered by us, here's a look of the rest of them:

Laser Genesis: This skin rejuvenation treatment helps improve the overall texture of your skin. It helps educe fine-line wrinkles, large pores, and scars. Laser Genesis may also stimulate growth of new collagen. We recommend a treatment every 4 weeks for 4 to 6 weeks.

Titan
This is also a skin rejuvenation treatment where the focus is on improving overall skin tightness. This procedure can be performed on all skin types. This treatment also stimulates new collagen growth. We recommend two treatments separated by four to six weeks.

Pearl
This is an ablative skin resurfacing procedure which improves fine-lines, wrinkles, and uneven textured and sun damaged skin. Patients are given a topical anesthetic and we recommend 1 to 2 treatments spaced out over a four week period. This procedure does have a 4-5 day down-time when the skin peels off to expose new healthy skin from below.

Non-invasive skin resurfacing treatments are safe but you should always visit an experienced practitioner when getting these procedures done. Contact our office to schedule your appointment today and walk away with beautiful, healthy skin that will make you look younger.

Botox is a popular drug made from a toxin which is produced by a bacteria know as Clostridium botulinum. Botox is used in cosmetic procedures to remove wrinkles, crows feet, and forehead lines from the face.

The way Botox injections work is that it weakens or paralyzes certain muscles so that they won't contract. It can also bock certain nerves. This leads to diminishing of your facial wrinkles. The effect of Botox can last for three or four months. There are many side effects from the use of Botox including headache, upset stomach, and flu like symptoms. Botox should not be used during pregnancy or while breast feeding.

The most common signs of aging are wrinkles and wrinkles can be formed through smiling, squinting, and any facial movement that is repeated.

Botox treatments can be combined with procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasionelp, and dermal fills which can help further diminsh the effects of aging by the reduction or prevention of new wrinkles and lines on the face.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Botox Treatments Can Provide Long-Lasting Benefits

Results of a research study unveiled at the meeting of American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon on April 24 in Washington, D.C show that after two years of Botox treatment, patients can potentially cut the frequency of their Botox treatments into half.

Although the research was sponsored by an unrestricted educational grant from Allergen, Inc., the maker of Botox Cosmetic, the study is worth a second look. If indeed Botox injections have a wrinkle preventing effect, it would mean a huge influx of Botox patients in the upcoming years.

The research study mentioned above included 50 women between the ages of 30 to 50 years of age. These 50 women were given Botox injections every four months for two years. Eventually these women reduced their frequency to once every six months and they still showed reduction in wrinkle formation.

More clinical studies will be required to demonstrate that these results are repeatable. But as I mentioned above, if Botox can indeed create a wrinkle prevention effect, more and more people will begin taking advantage of this treatment in the upcoming years.

Plastic Surgery Blog: The Missing Expression With Botox

Botox injections are non-invasive and therefore are very popular with people. With Botox treatment, people can look younger and freshen up their look. A recent study shows that Botox treatments which eliminate wrinkles can also eliminate the ability to show appropriate emotions on your face.

A study conducted recently showed that people who have taken Botox injections take longer to show emotions like sadness, glaring, or showing sympathy. The slowness of displaying those emotional reactions may lead to lost friendships if people misinterpret the reason for the lack of sympathy or lack of sadness on someone's face.

So Botox may be good for removing wrinkles but make sure that you are aware of its ability to also impact your social life too when people fail to understand why you appear "unsympathetic" in a particularly sad situation.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Fuller Lips Without Collagen
April 2nd, 2010

A recent issue of the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery included a new technique that was recently tried. Apparently two doctors used neck muscles instead of collagen implants to make fuller lips. The way it works is that a graft of the muscle in your neck that runs along the side is implanted into the patients lips. After two-years, researchers were able to see an increase of lip vermillion of between 20-24 percent. And they saw a 0.9 mm increase in the lip projection.

The advantages are that this is a more natural looking option and it does eliminate the need for artificial implants. But it also is supposed to reduce the signs of aging and is fairly easy to recover from which is a big plus.

So, obviously clinical trials and more data is required but if this were to be approved, no more collagen to make your lips look fuller!

Plastic Surgery Blog: Dermal Fillers!

Fillers are getting popular and why not. They are almost non-invasive and less expensive than cosmetic surgery. There are many fillers available and they can be used for filling wrinkles to making your nose and chin look fuller.

Most plastic surgeons and dermatologists will recommend temporary fillers rather than permanent fillers which are more dangerous. These temporary fillers are derivatives of hyaluronic acid and can last from six to nine months. One filler to avoid is liquid silicone which is known to cause deformity due to its ability to migrate away from where it was originally injected. Liquid silicone creates various complications and should be avoided.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved even with getting a hyaluronic acid filler. Risks include bleeding, an allergic reaction or even an infection post-treatment. Therefore it is very important to choose a qualified, experienced and trained plastic surgeon who can explain all the risks before you make your decision about some of these procedures.
