We offer many laser procedures to correct skin and hair problems. Here is a brief look at our various laser procedures:

  • Hair Removal: Using our ProWave 770 or CoolGlide laser, we re able to do hair removal procedures that are really effective in removing hair from various parts of your body. The procedure requires a topical anesthetic and at an average, we recommend six treatments over an eight week period. The procedure is non-invasive and patients feel minor discomfort.

  • Vascular Lesions: Our CoolGlide laser can remove vascular lesions including spider veins, angiomas, etc. This also requires topical anesthetic and we recommend a total of three treatments spread out over six to eight weeks.  This procedure does not treat varicose veins.

  • Lime Light: This is a skin rejuvenation procedure to improve the overall skin tone. This treatment helps reduce age spots, pigmentation, and small vascular vessels present in the skin. We recommend three or four treatments spread-out over a six week period.

More about our laser procedures in the next blog. Contact our office today to make an appointment and get started on skin that is clear, new, and free of wrinkles and age spots.

The Beauty Blog: Oxygen Facials Anyone?

A new beauty treatment! Oxygen Facials……

Neiman Marcus in Boston has collaborated with a Spanish beauty company called Natura Bisse to offer an oxygen facial valued at $1200 but free to customers who spend at least $500 at Neiman Marcus.

Basically a facial room is set up with pure air. First they wash your face and neck with a cleanser and then splash a toner on the clean areas. Once you begin relaxing, customers are given a Glyco peel after which a topical version of Botox is applied to the skin. The final step is massaging a moisturizing serum followed by a mask and another moisturizer.

The entire treatment is supposed to make a remarkable difference in your appearance by immediately reducing your wrinkles and making you feel "fresh", leaving the tiredness behind in the facial room.

Now all you have to do is either buy $500 worth of merchandise at participating Neiman Marcus stores to get it free OR fork out the $1200 to try it out without any pressure of buying stuff you don't need.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Skin Resurfacing To Reduce Appearance of Wrinkles

Wrinkle creams may work but there are some treatments that do a better job of reducing wrinkles than wrinkle creams. Here are three treatments which can help reduce wrinkles and skin imperfections without the need for surgery:

  • Microdermabrasion Treatments:
    • In microdermabrasion treatments, dead and damaged skin cells are removed. This is a form of exfoliation which increases the turnover of skin cells. It also promotes new collagen growth

  • Non-ablative Laser Resurfacing:
    • In this treatment, light energy is used to stimulate collagen synthesis under the skin. This is done without peeling or damaging the epidermis.

  • Skin Resurfacing Treatments:
    • Chemical Peels have acid in them. Chemical peels are used to burn off the outer layer of skin which then reveals a fresh layer of new skin underneath them.
      • Chemical peels include superficial peels such as glycolic and alpha-hydroxy peels. These help remove dead skin cells and improve the appearance of your skin.
      • Then you have the Medium Peels which contain salicylic or trichloroacetic acid. These peels improve skin texture and also remove fine wrinkle lines but are not as good in correcting deep wrinkles.
      • Finally there are deep peels which contain phenol and are very strong peels. They can remove deep wrinkles and correct damaged skin. These require quite a bit recovery time.

Again, always consult with a trained, experienced, and licensed practitioner before undergoing any of these treatments.

Seeing wrinkles and laugh lines that make you think about Botox and plastic surgery? But Plastic Surgery may not be the only answer to improving your appearance.

Here are some treatments which can bring about a youthful appearance in patients at a fraction of the cost of plastic surgery:

  • Sculptra: This is an injection which allows you to rebuild collagen in your facial tissues. When used, it creates a fresher, more plumped up appearance and has a longer lasting effect than Botox. It costs approximately $1000 per vial but may be worth every penny.

  • Dysport: This is another injection but it is closer to Botox and has similar chemicals. Dysport injections paralyze the wrinkle-causing muscles leaving patients looking younger and energized. Dysport results may last for almost three to four months,a gain similar to Botox.

  • Broadband light treatment: This treatment is mostly used to remove freckles, brown spots, and other skin imperfections. You may end up requiring many sessions at approximately $300-$400 per session but it is one of the more non-invasive procedures available.

Remember to always consult with a licensed practitioner before deciding upon any of the above procedures. And also remember that this blog doesn't constitute "medical" advise but is only meant to share insight and information at a general/high-level.

Plastic Surgery Blog: The Dysport Challenge Anyone?
March 7th, 2010

Ok, first let me tell you what Dysport is.

Dysport or abobotulinumtoxinA is a prescription injection for temporarily reducing moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people under the age of 65. Dysport is a product from Medicis, a US based pharmaceutical company whose focus is on treating aesthetic issues in people.

So what's the Dysport Challenge?

Well, patients who wish to try Dysport can save $75. If they love Dysport, they may receive $75 off their next Dysport treatment and thus end up saving $150. If patients don't "love" the Dysport treatment, they can opt for another treatment using a different product and still receive a $75 rebate. The Dysport Challenge started on March 1 and goes through April 30, 2010.

Before you do anything about this, read all the rules and terms of engagement by visiting  www.DysportUSA.com and talk to us and see if Dysport is right for you. Oh and this Dysport Challenge has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
